Welcome to the ORCID Integration Service

ORCID (Open Researcher and Contributor ID) is a free, permanent 16-digit alphanumeric code that uniquely identifies you as a researcher or academic contributor. It helps connect you accross systems, polls common journals for your contributions, and can act as a simple online CV.

This service links your watiam ID to your ORCID account, allowing for easy information transfer between campus tools and ORCID.

If you don't already have an account, you can register for one before continuing.

Why link your Waterloo ID to ORCID?

Connecting your University of Waterloo account to your ORCID ID makes it easier for campus systems to discover and use your public research profile automatically. Here's what it enables:

  • Seamless campus integration — Systems across campus can securely read your public ORCID profile without requiring you to re-enter your information.
  • Improved discoverability — Research discovery platforms such as Scival and Scopus use ORCID to disambiguate researchers. Linking your ID helps those systems reliably find and attribute your work to you, and helps UW staff and systems find you on these platforms.

Your ORCID data is only shared according to the visibility settings you choose on orcid.org. See our Frequently Asked Questions for more information.
